EXERCISE OF THE DAY: PUSH PRESS The push press is one of my favorite exercises. Going overhead with the barbell (correctly) requires an enormous amount of core stability. Don't go overhead from a standing position until you've mastered the plank – your overhead position should be nearly identical. No free passes on Ribcage position! Notice on the first rep that I let my ribs flare out a bit. I make sure to keep them down and exhale hard on the second, making for a better, more stable position. Shoot for a vertical forearm position during your front rack, dip your hips, and launch the bar off your shoulders. Finish the move looking straight ahead, squeeze your glutes and abs.
