Hanging Leg Raise

December 22, 2015

EXERCISE OF THE DAY: HANGING LEG RAISE The hanging leg raise is one of the progressions of spinal flexion (think reverse crunch) that hits the abs hard with a huge range of motion and stretch. With hips completely relaxed, pull down hard on the straps and tuck your tailbone. Your hips should move first with the legs following. Forcefully exhale and curl up into a ball! You might notice that you're squatting better afterward from the exhalation and pelvic tilt. The body loves opposites – here, you get some natural traction on the lumbar spine (we're almost always compressed by gravity) and a friendly force vector. Raising the legs is a lot more natural than yanking into a sit-up.
