EXERCISE OF THE DAY: GLUTE HAM RAISE College soccer prospect Adam performs the rarely-seen-done-correctly glute ham raise. Most of the time, I see people doing sit-ups on these things with a huge amount of spinal flexion. The GHR is, in fact; intended for the opposite use. Brace your core,squeeze your glutes, and extend your hips to attain a proper starting position. Lower yourself slowly as one unit, eventually descending into a back hyper extension. Drive your toes into the pad, extend at the hip, and pull with your hamstrings back into the original upright position. Absolutely fantastic exercise for eccentric control of the posterior chain (knee protector) and dynamic explosiveness in the hips!
